Lithophane Help

What is a lithophane?

A 3D‑printed relief that initially looks like a barely visible image. When backlit or held up to light, the picture becomes clear. Because the printed plastic has varying thickness, it lets different amounts of light pass through, producing a monochrome image.

How to create a lithophane

First, choose the photo you want to turn into a lithophane. Upload it on the Contract Printing & Lithophane page, then set the desired parameters (shape, size, color).

No quote needed

As with contract printing, you don’t need a manual quote or prior contact. After uploading the image and setting the parameters, you can place the order immediately.

What image formats are supported?

PNG, JPG, and JPEG are supported because they offer good quality and broad compatibility. High‑quality camera photos are recommended but not required.

Relationship between lithophane size and the picture

The lithophane width is fixed at 100 mm, 150 mm, or 200 mm. The length is calculated dynamically based on your photo’s aspect ratio. The image isn’t cropped into a fixed size; it’s scaled to the chosen width so the final lithophane includes the whole picture and fits the selected shape exactly.

What sizes can I choose?

Currently 100 mm, 150 mm, and 200 mm widths. Length is dynamic, and thickness varies across the image regions.

What shapes can I choose?

Concave, convex, or flat. This is the 3D shape onto which the lithophane is printed.
